English A is an IB class that was very challenging for me, but as well really useful and interesting. This class is thought to be for people who speak english as their first language, which is not my case. Although this certainly created certain difficulty in the manner and made assignments really challenging, I kept up with classwork and was able to have a lot of fun and find some really helpful skills. In this class we read several literary and non-literary pieces of work that helped us as students realized the value and global aspect of different ways of transmitting language. Furthermore, in this class we made several presentations and reflections that help improve and deepen our critical thinking and peripheral thinking. English A focused a lot on writing and finding different ways to allow communication to develop, which helped me improve my writing skills and my thought processes. Next, I will show three pieces of evidence from this class that I found extraordinary and I will gladly share.

English A: Language and Literature

“The limits of my language mean the limits of my world.”

Higher Level Essay

The Higher Level Essay is one of the Internal Assessments required for English A by the IB. This essay consists in selecting one of the read novels and from it consider one of its literacy tools and global issues involved, and from it creating a prompt to develop the essay. The essay as it is assigned, has to have a higher level language, use empirical evidence to sustain the arguments and have a proper structure for it to have sense. This essay isn't easy and its a task were I applied the IB skill of communicators. To further know about this, listen to the next podcast. As well, attached in my essay.

Minimalism Group Presentations

This group presentations consisted in investigating and analyzing the vlogs from Matt D'Avella. Matt is a film director that produced the Minimalism documentaries on Netflix. As well, he has a popular YouTube channel where he talks about minimalism, productivity and a healthy lifestyle. This project consisted in analyzing one of his vlogs, learning from it and talking a bit about Minimalism in each of our lives. Given this part of learning about Minimalism and implementing vlog skills, the IB skill used was being reflective. To know more about this, watch the next video.

Walt Whitman Mimic Poetry Project

This project consisted in implementing the skills learned from class about the poet Walt Whitman and the different tools he uses in his poems. In class we studied the work of Walt Whitman and the character itself, helping us as students realize the importance of Whitman in today's poetry. From this, we had to create a poem of our own, using Whitman's style in his work "I hear America Singing". To create this poem I applied the IB skill of knowledgeable, to deepen on this, explore the following infographic. Additionally, my unique poem is attached.
